2010 Adidas Women's 5K Challenge - Fundraisers

The 2010 Adidas Women’s 5K Challenge took place on Sunday 5th September with several members of Team Haven taking part in what is one of the most popular annual fun runs in London. The event has also become one of the biggest women only races in the UK, attracting a field of more than 25,000 to Hyde Park each year.

Long term Haven supporter Pooja Sharma took part this year, in what is here third 5K challenge, along with her close friend and running partner Clare Yassin, who took part in this race for the first time. Together they have raised more than £1,650 to date for The Haven which is such a fantastic achievement!

Genevie Kuiper-Isaacson and her fundraising team of 12 strong also ran the race to help fundraise, as they have done for several years now. Genevie’s team also held a cake sale on the Saturday to really help rasie awareness about The Haven. Our thanks go out to Christine Garrette, Tania Fletcher, Annelise Van Aswegen, Rianda Markram, Chris Muller, Emily Mackintosh, Donna and Kyra Samuel, Helen and Luci Garrett, Kath Cooper and Sonja Vermeulen for helping to raise more than £850 to date.

Sainsbury's Fulham Broadway - Charity Of The Year 2010/11

Breast Cancer Haven is thrilled to have been selected as the official charity of the year for our local Sainsbury’s store on Fulham Broadway.

Our launch party took place on 16th July to much fanfare outside the store as all the colleagues donned our fetching  Breast Cancer Haven t-shirts to spread the word about the Haven and its services. This was complemented by a collection and Haven information stand outside the store.  

This successful relationship continues on from our various fundraising events last year which raised more than £1,600. For 2010/11 we hope to push on and raise even more.

Ruth Hercules - Fundraiser

On July 14th Ruth held a pamper party at Woodford Baptist Church to help raise funds and awareness for the Haven. More than 100 friends, family and supporters attended to savour the fabulous homemade cakes and pink cocktails along with the wide and varied array of pamper treatments and free demonstrations.  

Ruth also held a raffle prize draw and together, with all the other generous donations, has raised a fantastic £924 from the event.

Your support really makes a difference. Thank you so much to Ruth, Ellie, Claudia, Liz, the whole church team and all who took part and supported the event to really make it a success!

Asics British 10K London Runners - Fundraisers

On Sunday 11th July 9 members of Team Haven braved the summer heat and humidity to take part in the 2010 Asics British 10K London Run.

More than 25,000 people took part this year, which was the events 10th anniversary, ranging from seasoned athletes and professional entrants to families, fun runners and many other participants from all walks of life.

To date all our runners have managed to raise well over £3,900 for Breast Cancer Haven!

Gaby Kaiser & Sophie Windred - London to Paris Bike Ride

On the 25th June Gaby and Sophie set of from south east London and embarked upon a thrilling three day cycle ride, taking in the lush English country sides of Kent and the North Downs, before making it across the Channel to Calais to begin the second day of their trip.

As day two began, the route south allowed them to take in the fantastic scenery and small rural villages of Normandy in northern France, and conquer some of the most challenging terrain and hills en route to the French capital.

The final day of the trip consisted of a gruelling last 114km ride through some equally tough rural landscapes and forests before taking the route down into the suburbs of Paris and racing through the famous city to the finish. Upon reaching the Eiffel Tower the challenge was complete and the celebrations could begin.

Both Gaby and Sophie have been long term supporters of the Haven and began training and raising sponsorship for the event right at the beginning of the year. To date they have both collected an amazing total of £5,332.30! We are so grateful to them and all their sponsors for their support.

Carys Andrews - Nightrider

Late on Saturday 19th June, and through into the early hours of the following Sunday, Carys could be seen cycling through the streets of south east and central London as she took part in the first annual Nightrider challenge! This 100km round trip took in all the famous sights and sounds of the capital by night and truly sounds like a fantastically unique experience.

Carys was one of around 300 cyclists taking part and raising money for various charities. With great support from her friends and family Carys had raised more than £400 to date for Breast Cancer Haven.

Alison Lyon - Fundraiser

Two year’s ago Alison walked the first half (around 50 miles) of the Lady Anne Way, a famously beautiful route beginning in Skipton and taking in the Yorkshire Dales, parts of Cumbria and the Upper Eden Valley, eventually ending in Penrith.  

In June 2010, with the support of close friends and family, Alison turned the second half of the walk into a fundraising challenge for Breast Cancer Haven. She successfully completed the walk taking in all the fantastic scenery en route. In the process, Alison has been overwhelmed with kind donations and sponsorship and has raised a fantastic total which currently stands at more than £2,100.

Paola Domizio - Fundraiser

Paola decided to celebrate her birthday this year by throwing a fundraising party in aid of Breast Cancer Haven. We are so grateful to all of Paola's friends, colleagues, family and supporters for helping her raise more than £2,500 to date.

BUPA London 10,000 participants - Fundraisers

Our Team Having running season continued with the BUPA London 10,000 race which took place on Bank Holiday Monday, 31st May. We had 4 runners taking part this year and all managed to complete the central London circuit in under 1 hour!

So far to date they have managed to raise a fantastic combined total more than £2,600 for Breast Cancer Haven.

Big well done's and thank you's go out to all our 2010 runners: Holly Cooney, Ellan Iaquaniello, Katy Renwick and Tina Valente.

Hazel Clayden - Fundraiser

On Tuesday 18th May Hazel held and coffee morning, raffle and luxury bring and buy sale at the historic Liston Hotel, Bournemouth.

The morning quickly extended in to the afternoon as the response from Hazel's supporters, friends and the local community was fantastic. The event has raised £592 to date for Breast Cancer Haven and Hazel is already planning another event due to the popularity of her first.

Virgin London Marathon runners class of 2010 - Fundraisers

This year Breast Cancer Haven was thrilled to have 10 members of Team Haven take part in the 2010 Virgin London Marathon, which took place on 25th April. Our runners came from all over the UK and managed to raise a whopping combined total of over £30,000 for Breast Cancer Haven!

Our special thanks go out to all our class of 2010: Sammy Adams, Simon Anderson, Julie Clarke, Michael Hirsch, Natalie Hunt, Patrice Kwade, Laura Mackay, Geoff Morris, Sarah Ruston and Merv Thomas.

For both Simon and Mike this is the second time they have taken part in the London Marathon to raise funds for Breast Cancer Haven. We are so grateful for their commitment and long term support.

Merv and Sammy also managed to clock an unbelievably fast time which allows them to qualify for the Chicago and New York marathons later in the year. All at Breast Cancer Haven wish them the best of luck with their training and preparations for their next big challenge.

Alison Rhynas - Fundraiser

Alison organised the first ever Haven Ceilidh which took place at the end of March in conjunction with the London Haven. The event was held at the Irish Cultural Centre, which is a renowned ceilidh venue, and included performances from critically acclaimed acts such as Stömp, Oomph Brass and The Slight Aches.

The evening was full of fantastic dancing, music and entertainment and to date has managed in raise in fabolous of £2,020.10 for Breast Cancer Haven.  

We would like to say a big thank you to Alison for all her hard work and also to all who helped make the event such a huge success – thank you so much!  

 

Louisa Burwood-Taylor - Fundraiser

A great big thank you to Louisa who took part in the Hotelympia 10K run at the end of February. She braved pouring rain and blustery winds to complete the route around east London's famous docklands and managed to raise more than £2,200 in the process for the Haven. Thank you so much!

Angela Hamilton - Christmas Soiree 2009

At the beginning of December Angela organised a Christmas Carols service and drinks soiree with recitals by the fabulous Chantage Choir. The event was held at St Columbus Church in Knightsbridge and has raised in excess of £15,000 to date. Breast Cancer Haven would like to thank Angela and all her guests for their support and generosity.

 

Gill Exton - Annual October Sale 2009

Gill holds an annual October sale to raise money for Breast Cancer Haven. Hand crafted jewellery, cards and cakes were available to buy from local designers. So far Gill and all involved have raised more than £900! Thank you so much for all your support.

 

The Young Ones Committee - Fundraisers

The Young Ones Committee is a new, vibrant group who have pledged their support for Breast Cancer Haven by holding fundraising events on our behalf. The committee have now held two events, the latest being a Race night which was held at the Haven in October. To date the Young Ones have raised an amazing £4200 for Breast Cancer Haven.

Haven Centre Volunteers - London

A huge thank you to all the wonderful people who kindly volunteer at The London Haven.  Our wonderful chefs who come in daily and cook nutritious food for our Visitors and staff and all the kind people who give their time to help in and around the centre with a variety of tasks from stuffing envelopes to database entry.

 

Natasha Jenabzadeh - Fundraiser

Natasha Jenabzadeh joined thousands of other women on Sunday 6th September to take part in the Women's Adidas 5k Challenge in Hyde Park London to rase funds for Breast Cancer Haven.

Thank you to Natasha who has so far raised over £1500 for the Haven!

 

Ismena Clout - Fundraiser

Ismena Clout is in  the midst of completing three challenges for us and is well on her way to meeting her target of £10,000. So far, she has completed the New York Marathon and will be taking part in the London Triathlon this summer, followed by a trek to Everest Base Camp next year, raising over £8,000 to date

 

 

Pippa Plaisted, her daughter Felicity and Anna Good - Fundraisers

From London to Brazil as prominent Haven supporters Pippa Plaisted, her daughter Felicity and Anna Good, undertook a challenging horse ride in rural Brazil between 15th-24th May. Many thanks to you all who have collectively raised over £7,500 for us.

 

London Fundraising Committee - Fundraisers

Dawnie Vernon and the London Fundraising Committee have been incredibly busy in 2009. Nearly £10,000 was raised from their Country Fair and Car Boot sale on the 12th July and £4,000 from "A Little Art Fair" - An Exhibition of Clare Inskip's works on 9th June 2009. We would like to say a huge thank you for the Committee’s continued commitment to the Haven.

 

 

Malcolm Arkle - Fundraiser

We would like to say a huge thank you to Malcolm Arkle who raised £275 by cycling from London to Brighton on 21st June 2009.

 

 

Gena Hull and Michelle Grant - Fundraisers

Breast Cancer Haven would like to say a huge thank you to Fundraisers, Gena Hull and Michelle Grant, who recently held a Ball at Stockbrook Golf & Country Club in Billericay, Essex. The evening was attended by 160 people who enjoyed a dinner with entertainment including a close-up magician, a 'Michael Buble' type singer and a disco. Breast Cancer Haven was delighted to be one of two charities who received £5000 from the funds raised at the event.

The two ladies managed to secure a wonderful array of raffle and auction prizes which were all kindly donated. The list included: champagne, a golf day, a £100 restaurant voucher, a glorious holiday in Spain, an assortment of signed football and rugby shirts and a meal for eight people including a butler.

Our hugest thanks goes to Gena and Michelle who organised all aspects of the evening and ensured it was such a huge success. We would also like to thank everyone who attended and who gave a donation or gift for the auction and raffle.

Ummu Bassett and Nina Piric have raised significant sums of £3314 and £4813 by making separate climbs up Machu Picchu. Thank you to both of these wonderful ladies.

 

Amanda Wakeley and Gilly Carey - Fundraisers

Thank you to Amanda Wakeley and Gilly Carey who held a raffle at Amanda Wakeley’s shop event and raised £180 from the day.

 

Victoria Carrington - Fundraiser

Victoria Carrington cycled from London to Paris in aid of Breast Cancer Haven and raised an amazing £3308. The cycling adventure was in memory of Victoria’s mother, Mary Lou Carrington who sadly passed away earlier this year. 

 

 

Harald Ludwigsen - Fundraiser

Harald Ludwigsen has been a long- term supporter of Breast Cancer Haven and his achievements to date for us include running the London Marathon and the Hamburg Marathon. On 5th July 2009, he decided to go one step further by taking part in the ultimate challenge, the Ironman Triathlon. Thank you so much to Harald who has put in an extraordinary amount of time and effort and also his wife R&eactute;agan who has been so supportive of his challenge.

 

Biljana Sykes - Fundraiser

Ally Magill raised £370 for Breast Cancer Haven by climbing the 5 Peaks Challenge on Wedneday 10th June 2009. Her challenge involved climbing up Snowdon, Ben Nevis, Scarfell Pike, Carrauntoohill and Slieve Donard. Well done to Ally and thank you.

Thank you to Sam Ubhi who held a raffle at her summer jewellery sale and raised £800 in the process for Breast Cancer Haven.

 

 

Frances Garrard - Fundraiser

Frances Garrard has been a huge long term supporter of Breast Cancer Haven’s, and has raised a whopping £2350 to date by holding annual complementary charity Therapies days with the help of her Complementary Cancer Support group. Frances’ event took place this year on Friday 10th July and raised a fantastic £400 for Breast Cancer Haven. Sharon Malyan raised a fabulous £1676 from her Think Pink Band Night by selling tickets, holding a raffle and selling merchandise at the event. Thank you so much to Sharon for putting on such a wonderful night and holding this event for the Haven once again.

 

La Marmotte Team - Fundraisers

 

La Marmotte is a 174km cycling event over a classic Alpine route that rivals the L’Etape du Tour. Mike Ward Dominic Paul Chris Hale John Watson Eddie Buckley Dave Patten, and Tony Craddock all bravely decided to undertake this fearsome challenge and raised an amazing £6338 in the process! Thank you to all the team who took part.

 

Sara Whale - Fundraiser

Thank you to Sara Whale who raised £225 by running the Bath Half Marathon.
